We've added a new rating system to the bishounen listed here and at our shrines! This guide will list how we actually rate the bishounen.

Currently, rating is based on 6 different quality criteria, with a "type" to describe the bishie generally. These are rated by Yayoi (¡â) and Tetsuya (¡á) and/or Midori (¡â) to ensure "fairness" where possible. Since a bishounen is ultimately a pretty boy, we've revised the rating to put more weightage on looks!

I think a bishie deserve more/less stars than given!
As mentioned, deciding whether a boy is a bishounen is subjective and depends on the individual. The ratings are purely based on our own judgements. So just take the rating with a pinch of salt and have fun browsing!

A bishie has been rated as "Intellectual / wise / talented" but I don't think he is? (or similar qns).
The qualities given has been revised to cater to different groups of bishounens and we try to list some qualities from each group. So if a bishie gets 4 stars for intelligence, it doesn't mean he is intelligent, wise AND talented. It could be that he is talented (e.g. real-life musicians), or wise (e.g. RPG magicians).

OMG, my fave bishie got only a 2 for personality!
When creating the rating scheme, we realised that a guy can be either a villian or a hero and still be a bishounen! That's why certain qualities like style and personality have been revised such that distinctiveness is more important because that's what will make him stand out from other similar bishounens. So if your idol got 2 stars for personality, it doesn't mean that he is rotten, just that he's "normal".

The rest, which does not go much by distinctiveness (such as intelligence, popularity, status), are given only 5% weightage each. So while it is good that the bishounen is also talented, popular and has a high status in society (we're materialistic! XD), we try to make sure that it will not affect his rating too much because a "bishounen" is ultimately a "pretty boy"!

Urgh, my fave bishie got only 1 star for overall rating. Does it means he's not a bishounen?
Refer to the rating scheme for "overall" above. Do remember that all boys listed here are considered as a bishounen, so even if he got 1 star, it means that he is a standard bishounen, who still fares better than the typical average guy!

A bishie got 3.20 points and he got 3 stars, the other got 3.30 points and he got 3.5 stars? (for example)
We usually round up the points using a "standard deviation" of ±0.25 (which is half of every 0.5 star increment). So any points between 2.76 to 3.25 will be given 3 stars and any points between 3.26 to 3.75 will be given 3.5 stars. (and so on...)

M from anime X is not as handsome as N from game Y but they got the same score? (for example)
We usually try to rate them objectively within their own genre and within their series. This is because of factors which may not be present in another series or may cause unfair advantage to the bishounen. E.g. creator's drawing style, genre, storyline or ficitional situations, etc. Compare them with real-life bishies and the rating gets complicated with all the differences. So the rating is generally calculated within genre/type (anime, game or real life) and series.

This is too complicated.
